ARC Review: Vince Charming by Ava Kendrick

Vince Charming (Bad Boy Sports Romance)Vince Charming by Ava Kendrick

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Vince Barton never sleeps with the same girl twice. He is certainly no one’s prince charming. Mia Summers needs a prince to marry in order to inherit her aunts company which holds the fate of her home town in its hands. Mia heads to the UK in search of an aristocrat to marry and help her to live happily ever after. Too bad she meets Vince Barton first an ex-fighter with a sexy British accent. He saves her from a mugging and sparks fly between these two immediately. Vince finds her attractive but Mia is on a mission to save her town and get the company out of the clutches of her cousins. No matter how charming and sexy Vince is he’s not what she needs. Or is he exactly what she needs?

I loved the friendship that built between these two characters right from the start. There was tremendous sexual tension happening but they both held back. When they finally gave into their desires it was explosive. This story surprised me at first I found it a little silly but the characters were so cute and so much fun I couldn’t help but be drawn into the story with them.

Vince was cocky and arrogant but his sexy sweet charm shined through when he was with Mia. Mia was innocent, sweet and kind and a little naïve but I believe it added to her charm. Mia and Vince learn some valuable lessons in this book—sometimes the risk is worth it.

This was my first book from Ava Kendrick I would definitely want to read more from here. She took me on a trip through a romantic fantasy and I wouldn’t mind going again.

REVIEWS

★★★★★ I was in a book slump and decided to read a new to me author. This book captured me from the beginning to the end and had me in tears a lot of the time. I love a good cowboy book, and would recommend anyone to read this book, along with the other 2 books in this series. -Denise Page-Jessie

★★★★★ Such a great story. Definitely one of my favorite reads. Loved Reed and Kori but especially Reed *sigh* ;) lol What made this book for me was that most of the book was told from Kori's POV but then it changed to Reed's. I love when authors give you both the hero and heroine POV and the way CA Harms did it in this story was awesome. So looking forward to more. Marie and Gavin definitely have my attention and can't wait to start reading their story. -Mariann at Belle's Book Blog

★★MEET THE AUTHOR★★
A little about me. Let's see where to start.

I love HEA stories, as long as they come packing a little heat. I need some excitement, some angst, and moments that make me fan my face are always good too. I am an Illinois girl, born and raised. Simple and true, it honestly doesn't take much to make me happy. I love the little things; they truly mean the most. I may have a slight addiction to my new Keurig--oh my, that thing is a godsend. And so fast too. I have two children who truly are my very best friends, and their faces never fail to put a smile on my face. I have been married to my husband for sixteen years, and even though at times I want to beat him with a stick, I would never change the years we have had. We have learned and fallen, only to pick each other up, dust off the ache, and help each other make it right.
I am one of those authors that adore my fans. I love to hear from you. After all, it is because of each one of you that I continue to write. I look forward to your feedback.

ARC Review: Caerwin and the Roman Dog by Lizzie Ashworth

Caerwin and the Roman Dog
An Erotic Historical Romance Set in 47 AD Britannia
By Lizzie Ashworth

Caerwin, a young Cornovii princess, watches from the rocky battlements of her tribe’s hillfort as Rome’s legions approach. Surely the valiant warriors of her tribe will fend off this swarm of foreign invaders. Disbelief slowly changes to horror as Romans overrun her home.

Captured and held in Roman camp, Caerwin faces Legate Marcellus Antistius who makes it clear she will submit to his demands. In spite of her resistance, he forces her pleasure. She begs to die.
Caught between his increasing infatuation with this Briton princess and the demands of his military command, Marcellus must come to terms with his past.

A fiery novel of domination and submission, this historical romance follows Caerwin as she refuses to accept her new reality. Life as she knew it is over. Forever. In its place stands a man she can never love.

Set in the year 47 AD as four legions of the Roman army invade Britannia and blaze a path of death and destruction, this novel portrays the plight of native Celts who must yield their lands and possessions to become vassals of Rome—or fight to the death.

Caerwin is a young Cornovii princess who watches as her brother and village warriors are brutally taken down by Rome’s legions. The Roman forces overrun her home and capture all the survivors. She is sure she will either be killed or made a slave by the Roman dogs. To her surprise the Legate Marcellus Antistius seems to have taken a liking to her and has decided to keep her as his personal slave. She resists his advances and begs him to kill her or she will kill him. When Marcellus begins to show her kindness and affection Caerwin becomes confused by emotions she never expected to feel for the enemy. He trusts her and shares some of his past secrets with her. But he’s the enemy she can’t love him she must escape, however escape may be her biggest mistake.

I enjoy a good historical romance but since they usually are long and have a lot going on I am very picky about the ones I read. I had forgotten that I asked for this ARC back in December, I was kindly reminded and so I decided to dive in. I was pleasantly surprised and was unable to put it down. I was reminded constantly of the HBO show Rome that I used to watch and loved. The attention to historical details was amazing, transporting the reader to a time in history when Rome ruled supreme. At the same time giving us a love story like none other.

Caerwin is a young woman proud of her Cornovii heritage refusing to bow down to the Romans dogs. One Roman in particular may be more than she anticipated. The friendship that builds between captive and captor was beautiful to behold. At times I was frustrated with Caerwin’s naiveté and stubbornness but understood her age and position. Marcellus’ mysterious past was intriguing and certainly kept me guessing as to what he was hiding. I love Marcellus right away he was a warrior but I felt like he was just looking to be loved and felt trapped in the life he was handed.

Caerwin experiences kindness at the handsome Marcellus’ hands mostly—unfortunately there are times that he feels the need to discipline her in order to save face with his men. I felt like he didn’t want to do it that he would rather cherish her. There are also a few violent things that happen to Caerwin that I felt were written with care and played into the story well not just violence for the sake of shock value.

Caewin and the Roman Dog has a major cliffhanger I have no problem with those but I will anxiously await the next book. I understand the author is currently writing it I am sure a lot goes into an epic story like this one. If you love historical romances that take you to another time this is a really great one to read.

The man she had seen on the white horse paused in the opening. His stare fastened on her and sent chills down her spine. He stood taller than the other men, his body of a stature more like her own people than these rat men of Rome. His layered metal vest had been removed as had his helmet and other outer garments, so that he wore only loose breeches that ended at his knees. She swallowed, casting her eyes away after her first long frozen moment.

“Do you like what you see?” he asked quietly.
The words shocked her, spoken fluently her familiar language. She turned to face him. Words rose to her lips but remained unspoken. He examined her, openly casting his gaze up and down her body as if he owned her. The terrible realization struck her—he did own her. She had been caught up at his command and now stood captive to his whim.

She spat in his direction and turned her face away. Tugging against the tight leather bonds, she succeeded only in chafing her wrists. Her nerves heightened to brittle pitch as she sensed him approaching. She knew what he would do, what such men did to captured women.
He placed himself in front of her, so close she could not look away without seeing his chest. His scent stung her nose, sharp and edged with the copper hint of blood. Stains marked his arms and face, sweat-encrusted dirt and smears of blood. His voice startled her, so close and so quiet.
“What is this trinket?” he asked, fingering the torque.

She glared at him. “Shall you steal it from me like you have stolen our lives and our land?”
“I wish only to converse with you, to ease this friendship we’ve started.”
She snorted and strained at the bonds holding her. “I wish only to kill you. I would leave your body for the crows.”

He grabbed her face and held her still while his mouth tasted her. His lips moved against her lips. His tongue sought the seam and when she refused to spread her jaw, he bit her lower lip. Her shocked cry gave him entry, and his tongue invaded her mouth, probing and pushing.
Hate rose in her chest, blinding her. She clamped her teeth down on his tongue, savoring a brief taste of blood as he jerked back.

“Vipera!” He wiped his hand over his mouth. “You won’t win this battle, but if you wish a contest…” His big hand closed over the neck of her garment and ripped it down the front of her body. The beautiful woolen dress she had so carefully woven hung off her shoulders.
“I will have you,” he said in a hoarse voice. “Whether you wish it or not. Let the others portion out the gold and silver, whatever meager wealth your tribe held. I have wealth enough in coin. You with your hair like copper,” he added, fingering her long braid, “your eyes blue as sky—you are my pillage for this day.”

Lizzie Ashworth has been through career, marriage, kids, and even ran her own cafe, but writing has always been her secret love. Hidden away on a remote woodland hilltop in the Arkansas Ozarks, she accepts advice from her hound dog Weezie and her black cat Esmeralda. She has authored seven novels and several short stories which explore the intimate nuances of human relationships.

Liz writes erotic romance because her mind just naturally runs to the gutter. Also, it’s way past time to celebrate women’s sexual freedom and the evolution of our culture to finally bring sex out of the closet. What she find most exciting about this minute in the history of literature is that through indie publishing, the author can directly connect with her readers.

She enjoys cooking, gardening, and vacations at the Pacific coast. Sunrise and sunset provide her favorite moments, the magical twilight between two worlds when anything seems possible. Most of all, she loves snuggling up with a good book.

Author: Addison Kline
Genre : Romantic suspense
Cover Design : Wicked by design

Book 1 of the Phoenix Saga - The Phoenix

“Love is patient. Love is kind. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” Or so the book of Corinthians tells us.

Alanna Anderson does not agree with this sentiment. At the tender age of thirteen, Alanna believes that she has learned all she needs to know about love. Love is fleeting. Love is callous. Love is a lie. Growing up in the rough streets of South End, Pennsylvania, Alanna Anderson knows a thing or two about guarding her heart. Although there is a boy that vies for her attention, Alanna has no interest. She surrounds herself with the people she loves best, and immerses herself in her music and her love of literature. But one winter day, two boys forever changed Alanna’s life. One cemented Alanna’s belief that love was cruel. Another sought to prove her wrong.

Cris Serrano is new to town. Moving to the United States from Portugal, he is stepping into a world he in unfamiliar with. He is not fearful, though. Stepping forth with confidence, Cris is excited for what this new experience will hold, leaving behind a past he’d rather forget. Upon his first day at Henshaw Elementary, Cris meets Alanna Anderson and sparks fly. Their connection is one that will forever rewrite the map of their destinies – two supernovas colliding amidst a darkened sky. Not everyone believes that Alanna and Cris belong together, though.

Damien Foley has loved Alanna Anderson from the day he first set eyes upon her. Though she ignores his advances, Damien has hope that Alanna will open her heart to him. But when Cris Serrano comes to town, everything changes. Alanna gazes at Cris the way Damien wishes she would look at him. Watching her fall in love in Cris was more than Damien’s mind could take. As Alanna and Cris are enveloped in the joy of young love, a storm is brewing. With Damien’s attraction to Alanna only intensifying with each unrequited sentiment, an obsession was born.

Young love does not come easy in this gritty, romantic suspense novel. In the Phoenix Saga, they love hard, they fight hard, and the stakes are high as teens struggle to step over the echelon of adulthood.

Standing just inside the doorway, I stare at the scene playing out in front of me. It’s reminiscent of a movie, seemingly out of this world, yet I know this is real life.

I’ve never been one to cringe at the sight of blood. In fact, it’s always intrigued me. Watching as the dark red fluid slowly oozes from the open wound until a pool of opaque wetness forms around it. It’s in that moment that it becomes almost mystical, when the perfectly formed droplets seem to cry, the streams branching off into trails of crimson red. The warmth it eludes, the sticky sweet texture, and the feeling of instant gratification have always mesmerized me, but then again, I’ve always been the odd man out.

I would’ve made the perfect cutter. The release I feel at the sight of the very first drop is immeasurable, yet I have never even contemplated doing it. It lacks the spontaneity I’ve always desired in my need for the unexpected.

“You wanted to see the dark? Well here it is.” My father’s voice brings me back to the present, reaffirming that this is not a dream.

Blurb
It started out like any other morning on the train.

Until I became mesmerized by the guy sitting across the aisle.

He was barking at someone on his phone like he ruled the world.

Who did the stuck-up suit think he was…God?

Actually, he looked like a God. That was about it.

When his stop came, he got up suddenly and left.  So suddenly, he dropped his phone on the way out.

I might have picked it up.

I might have gone through all of his photos and called some of the numbers.

I might have held onto the mystery man’s phone for days—until I finally conjured up the courage to return it.

When I traipsed my ass across town to his fancy company, he refused to see me.

So, I left the phone on the empty desk outside the arrogant jerk’s office.

I might have also left behind a dirty picture on it first though.

I didn’t expect him to text back.

I didn’t expect our exchanges to be hot as hell.

I didn’t expect to fall for him—all before we even met.

The two of us couldn’t have been any more different.

Yet, you know what they say about opposites.

When we finally came face to face, we found out opposites sometimes do more than attract—we consumed each other.

Nothing could have prepared me for the ride he took me on. And I certainly wasn’t prepared for where I’d wind up when the ride was over.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn't see coming.

Excerpt

Outside of the restaurant, Graham’s black car was already curbside.  He must have had it waiting and called the driver when I went to the restroom.
“If you’re not going to come home with me, I insist on at least giving you a ride home to your place.”
“The subway is right around the corner.  I’m good.”
He shot me an annoyed glance.  “Give a little, Soraya.  It’s a ride home, not a ride on my cock.  And I think you know by now that I’m not a serial killer.”
“You’re so crass.”
He put his hand on the small of my back and steered me to the waiting open car door.  I didn’t put up a fight.  Graham was right, I was being stubborn while he had pretty much agreed to anything I demanded.  Something told me it was a rare occasion when the man was this flexible.
When we arrived at my apartment, Graham walked me to the door.
“When will I see you again?”
“Well, tomorrow is Saturday, so I suppose maybe Monday on the train.”
“Have dinner with me again tomorrow?”
“I have plans.”
His jaw flexed.  “With whom?”
We embarked into a lengthy stare off.  His gaze was hard.  When neither of us gave for a few minutes, he grumbled Christ under his breath, and before I realized what was happening, my back was against the door, and his mouth was on mine.
He kissed me as if he wanted to eat me alive.  Before releasing my mouth, he took my lower lip between his teeth and tugged.  Hard.  With his lips vibrating up against mine, he spoke.  “Don’t push me to my limit, Soraya.”
“Why?  What will happen?”
“I’ll push back.  And I’m trying not to do that with you.”
He was being honest, and I realized I should appreciate that.  “To my sister’s house.  It’s my niece’s birthday party.  That’s where I’m going tomorrow night.
He nodded.  “Thank you.”
It took every bit of my willpower to go inside and shut the door behind me.  I leaned my back against the door, unable to remember the last time I was so hot and bothered.  Maybe not ever.  His mouth was sinful; the thought of what he could do with that wicked tongue other places on my body kept me in a state of arousal that bordered on frenzied.  But it was more than that.  The way he was so dominating and controlling, yet exercised restraint to respect my wishes, was the sexiest thing I’d ever seen.  The man stimulated something that had been sleeping inside of me.  I needed a glass of wine and an orgasm.  Not necessarily in that order.  If I was going be firm on my stance that we get to know each other and not have sex, then taking things into my own hands was absolutely essential.
In my bedroom, I stripped out of my clothes.  I didn’t sleep naked every night, but tonight was definitely a bare evening.  As I slipped into bed, my cell rang.
“Is phone sex on the table?”  Graham’s voice was a needy rasp.  Whatever cooling off my body had done since I left him on the other side of the door was instantly reheated.  His voice could definitely speed things up for me.  But…
“Sex is off the table.  That should probably include all types of sex.  Intercourse, oral, phone.”
He groaned.  “Oral.  God, I want to taste you.  And feel that metal tongue ring on my cock.  You have no idea how difficult it was to control myself tonight every time I caught a glimpse of that metal when you spoke.  It’s like you’re taunting me with every word.  What are you wearing, Soraya?”
That voice.  I needed to record him saying What are you wearing, Soraya?  So I could play it over and over again in a loop when I needed to satisfy my own needs.  “I’m actually not wearing anything.  I just got undressed and slipped into bed.”
“You sleep naked?”
“Sometimes.”
He actually growled.  “Touch yourself.”
“I plan to.  But I think I’m going to need both hands tonight.  So I’m going to hang up first.”
“How long do you plan on driving me crazy, Soraya?”
“Good night, Graham.”  I hung up without waiting for him to respond.  Even though my body physically ached for the man, I wasn’t ready to open that door with him just yet.  Although as I glided my hand down my body alone in my bed, the only thing I could think of was God, I wish it was his hand.
