Cover Reveal: Footprints by Nicky Jayne

Title : Footprints
Author: Nicky Jayne

As a young child, Riley Crass watched helplessly from an oil stained tarmac in her mother's embrace as her father walks into the belly of the air force transport plane, taking him away from her. Throughout Riley's life, her mother alone raised her while her father was away fighting a destructive war. When tragedy struck, her father is ripped away from ever returning, and Riley vows she would never endure this pain again. Even while memories linger silently, Riley has intentionally avoided ever crossing paths with military men, but nothing prepared her when she collided with Tanner Baker.

An average guy he was not. From a distance Tanner was everything any woman would want but deep down hidden beneath his war torn skin is the heart of a broken Hero. Joining the military as soon as he was old enough, Tanner ran away from what he felt was holding him back the most but after time learned that family is the one constant the on rock he has to lean on. It took a tragedy to realize this, that was until he met Riley Crass....

Evie Carter has faced trials and tribulations her entire life. Her teenage years have been ripped away from her as she battles cancer. Just when things can’t get any worse, her doctor delivers the news that it’s finally time to make a life or death decision. Her options are limited and come with deadly consequences. The miracle drug that is meant to save her life changes her on a cellular level. She might not be damaged anymore, but she might just be damned in her new life.

As I return his gaze, my heart seems to stop and time slows to a screeching halt. There’s nothing else that he can do to save me. The only chance I have now is to trust that these researchers in their government funded laboratories have discovered some miracle drug that might give me my life back. I lean back into my pillows clutching the black and gold fleece Purdue blanket my eight year old niece, Shay, made me when my hospital stays increased to weeks instead of days. Touching the soft fleece helps my rapid heartbeat slow down and allows my mind to consider the options. I close my eyes and consider what I have to gain if I could through with the drug trials. It could help me lead a normal life if it works or it could take away the quality of life in the time I have left.  I know deep down I want to live and this trial could mean everything in my battle. After what seems like hours, even though it was only a few minutes in reality, I open my eyes and look for my parents. They are both sitting in the blue plastic covered recliners in my room holding each other’s hands with their foreheads pressed together in what I am assuming is prayer.  They hear the plastic move on my hospital bed as I shift trying to make myself as comfortable as I can with all the tubes coming out of me and they turn their faces towards me. The look on my mother’s face tells me that they know I’m about to make the decision that will forever change our family. A decision that I don’t even think they would have the strength to make on my behalf. I turn my eyes to Dr. Bob, who is still sitting on the edge of my bed waiting for my decision. It takes me a few seconds to realize that I hold the keys to my life in what I’m about to say. As I open my lips the tears finally begin to flow.
I utter quietly as I wipe away my tears, “I want to do the trial. Where do I sign?”

Avelyn Paige is a born and raised Indiana girl. She may be a Hoosier by birth, but she’s a Boilermaker by choice! Avelyn lives in rural Indiana with her pastor husband, 2 spoiled cats, and one very odd looking dog.  She’s an oncology research scientist by day and a writer and book review blogger by night. She enjoys reading anything she can get her hands, baking, and spending time with her friends and family.

Never intending on ever writing her own book, the idea behind the Damaged series came to her on a drive to work early one morning thinking about her father who’d recently passed away. His strength during his cancer and rare blood disease battle inspired Avelyn to do something she’s never thought about before. She’s excited to see where this wild ride takes her.

Sept 7th - Sept 14th

The small town of Elliot Lake will never be the same again.

Caught in a sudden thunderstorm, Zoe, a high school senior from Elliot Lake, and five of her friends take shelter in an abandoned uranium mine. Over the next few days, Zoe’s hearing sharpens drastically, beyond what any normal human being can detect. She tells her friends, only to learn that four others have an increased sense as well. Only Kieran, the new boy from Scotland, isn’t affected.

Fashioning themselves into superheroes, the group tries to stop the strange occurrences happening in their little town. Muggings, break-ins, disappearances, and murder begin to hit too close to home. It leads the team to think someone knows about their secret – someone who wants them all dead.

An incredulous group of heroes. A traitor in the midst. Some dreams are written in blood.

Wanita May grew up in the fruit belt of Ontario - St.Catharines.  Crazy-happy childhood, she always has had a vivid imagination and loads of energy.

The youngest of six -- four older brothers, and a sister --  taught her at a young age to be competitive in all aspects of life.

At sixteen, she began competing in athletics (track and field) and before she turned seventeen, she was representing Canada in high jump.  She continue to compete, breaking Canada's JR High Jump record (1.92m - 6' 3 1/2" for those metric-ly challenged).  She attended University of Toronto, and Kansas State University - winning CIAU's and becoming All-American 6x - NCAA Indoors Runner Up + more.

But you're not interested in her athletic career - unless of course you're curious to know she stands 1.70m (5'7") and has jumped 20cm over her head on more than one occassion. She's represented Canada at the World Championships, World Jrs., won Francophone Games, and loved every minute of every competition.  From the grueling workouts, the crazy weights she lifted on her back, the days she thought her lungs were going to spit out of her mouth for lack of oxygen, the travelling around the world and the opportunity to read - her favourite past time.

Life continued with her husband (a distance runner from Liverpool, UK, who she met at KSU) and then their first, then second and finally third child.  Their house became full of more imagination and stories.

Wanita and her husband run an online business, dealing in antiques and collectables - particularly jewelry and porcelain (one of the business' website: www.wadeincanada.com ).

After her father passed away in 2009, from a six-year battle with cancer (which she still believes he won the fight against), she began to write again.  A passion she'd loved for years, but realized life was too short to keep putting it off.

Her first book, Rae of Hope - from the Chronicles of Kerrigan - will be available October 2011 by kNight Romance Publishing.

She is currently represented by Dawn Dowdle of Blue Ridge Literary Agency. Wanita is a writer of Young Adult, Fantasy Fiction and where ever else her little muses take her.
