Cover Reveal: The Beauty of Grace - A She's Beautiful Novel by Nicole Richard

Title: The Beauty of Grace
Series: She's Beautiful Series #1
Author: Nicole Richard
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: November 5, 2015

At age eighteen, Grace Bowman's life crumbled right in front of her. The man who held her heart—her forever—was gone, and her family ties were in tatters. As a result, she forged a steel wall round her heart and vowed never to let anyone get close again.

Now, six years later, she has been given a chance to start fresh in Savannah, Georgia. A chance to leave the struggle of day-to-day life behind, find a career, and give Drew, her five year old son, a shot at normal.

A balloon and a flat tire had her crossing paths with AJ Watson, and she realized normal probably wasn’t in her cards.

AJ was handsome, thoughtful, and fiercely loyal to his family. Yet, behind his baby-blue eyes and Southern boy charm, he was just as broken as she was. She told herself to stay away from him, and she tried, but the lines between friendship and lover are blurred.

When Grace realizes history may be repeating itself, will she be able to let go of the past, or will she walk away from her future?

Chapter One Excerpt

I was just about to open my driver’s side door when I turned toward the rumbling of a motorcycle that came to a halt next to me. A black leather jacket covered, chiseled-to-perfection male specimen kicked the kickstand and removed his helmet. My breath hitched at the sight of our grocery checkout friend. A warm pool of heat flowed effortlessly through my veins. What in the world was going on with my traitorous body? I watched his movements as he placed his helmet on the handlebars and swung his leg, lifting himself off his bike.

“You need some help there?” he asked blankly and sauntered to the side with the flat.

“I do.” I said softly.

Closely watching his every move, I should have been tense, on guard—for heaven’s sake this man was technically a stranger—but I felt a sense of safety in his presence. I think he just asked me something, but for the life of me, I had no idea what he said. With a kind voice and a sexy grin, he asked if I had a spare in the trunk.

I hoped I did, my car wasn’t that old. Sometimes I missed that damn Mercedes, but with a baby to support that was not a practical choice. So, I traded it in for this Altima and lived off the rest.

“I think so.” I popped the trunk.

Standing at the open trunk, he searched until he found what he was looking for. Spare tire and jack in hand, he got to work.

Ten minutes later, my tire was changed and just in time. It started to drizzle again. Our mystery friend slammed the trunk shut and tapped it twice before looking at me. I felt so out of sorts near this man, and a faint flush warmed my cheeks.

“Thank you, Mr. . . ” I realized I didn’t even know his name. Smirking he stuck his hand out.

“Name’s Alex, or AJ, as everyone else calls me.”

“Well thank you, Mr.—umm, I mean, Alex.” And for the third time that day, I felt the blush in my cheeks.

“My pleasure, Miss—”

“Oh, I’m sorry. It’s Grace, and thank you again for your help, and the balloon.”

Alex nodded like a gentleman. “I’d tell you to have your husband get you a new tire but didn’t see a ring on your finger. So maybe have your boyfriend get that looked at. You don’t want to be driving around on a spare tire for too long.”

“Thank you, I’ll let him know.” I knew his angle, and I wasn’t falling for it. Clearly, he was trying to fish around for information about if I had a man in my life. Even though he was a Good Samaritan, I still had some level of skepticism.

I smiled, waved, and got in my car, only to sneak a peek through the rearview mirror. Watching Alex straddle his motorcycle and put his helmet on made that instant pool of heat slowly shift south again, and I wondered if I needed to get myself checked out. I couldn’t recall ever being this flustered by the opposite sex before.
Nicole was born and raised in Hawaii, where she currently resides with her husband and teenage daughter and son.

At an adolescent age, she took a strong liking to reading and even had a pipe dream of writing her own book. Life and growing up had put reading on the far end back burner and recently came alive again.

A hopeless romantic, she has a love for romance novels, which she credits her late mother passing on to her and now an even stronger love to write her own stories.

When Nicole, isn’t working, writing or reading, she enjoys her chocolate frozen yogurt with mini Reese’s pieces addiction, Starbucks in moderation and a once-a-year (if she’s lucky) trip to visit her best friend in Vegas.

Excerpt

“Wait, Mackenzie!” Tyler cried out after me. “Tell me what you want me to say and I’ll say it! Letting you walk away from me once was the biggest mistake of my life. I won't do it again.”

I spun around just as I was about to open the front door. “You let me walk away from you?” I hissed, my teeth clenched.

“That’s not what I meant.” He ran his hands through his dark brown hair and I could see the desperation wash over him. “What I meant to say is all the lies, all of it… I’m so sorry I put you through it. But do you think I regret any of it?” His eyes grew more intense and impassioned, his chest heaving as he poured his heart out to me. “Not for a second.”

I glared at him, waiting for him to explain.

“If it wasn’t for all the lies, for my assignment, I never would have met you, so I’m not going to say I regret a fucking second of any of it. I don’t care what it takes to win back your heart. You can push me away all you want. You can tell me you’ll never forgive me, that there will never be an us again, but I will always come back for you. A hundred times. A thousand times. I will fight for us until I take my last breath.”

He stepped toward me, grabbing my hand in his, caressing my knuckles in such a delicate way that made me want to melt into a puddle.

“Please, Mackenzie…” He leaned toward me, brushing his lips against my forehead, kissing me so delicately, so lightly. “Serafina,” he whispered, “tell me what it will take and I’ll do it.”

Despite everything he had just said, I simply couldn’t let him back in. Relationships were based on trust, and Tyler took my trust and used it against me. I couldn’t forget that, no matter how much my skin yearned for his touch.

“You want to know what it’s going to take?” I asked softly, freeing my hand from his grasp.

He nodded, nervous anticipation radiating through his body as he looked at me with eager eyes.

“It’ll take one more time,” I murmured, opening the door. Peering over my shoulder, I saw his deflated expression. “It will always take one more time.”

“You didn’t give me what I want either, so now I’m going to take from you what I want even more.” His tongue dips out to wet his lips, and he bites the bottom one for just a second. For some reason, my eyes zoom in on it, and they forget for just a second what’s going on here.

“You’ll like it … don’t worry,” he muses, stepping even closer so he can smell me.

I turn my head to the side while he sniffs me, trying to lean away, but it seems it only makes him come closer. He places a soft kiss on my neck, his tongue drawing a line upward toward my ear. Right before he nibbles my ear, he hovers in front of it, and for a second, I think I can hear him smile.

He hisses, “I love your smell. Your taste. They make me so fucking hard.”

Suddenly, his hand is on my breast, kneading, tugging, and twisting. Everything and anywhere, all at the same time. Sensory overload makes me gasp, and when my mouth opens, he covers it with his. He takes my breath quite literally, kissing me until my moan is silenced, kissing me with everything he has. His taste is familiar, intoxicating, and for a second, I forget that I’m even hanging here. His tongue expertly licks the roof of my mouth, his lips brushing mine with equal fervor.

“This is what I’ll take from you,” he murmurs into my mouth.

His free hand slides down my body and past my inner thighs, pushing my legs apart as he starts rubbing me. I feel humiliated. Used. Shameful, for actually feeling my pussy thump from having him touch me.

“Hmm … you like it when I touch you.” It’s not even a question.

“No …” I say, shaking my head.

He grins. “Yes, you do.” He pushes a finger on top of my clit. “Right here.”

I moan when he rubs it with his index finger and then brings his thumb into the play to roll my clit. Wetness is building inside me as my core clenches, desperate to fight off the arousal, but my body is a fool for his touch.

My mind has been deprived for too long, and when he offers me this release, I’m too weak to fight it. It crosses my mind that perhaps, if I give this to him, he’ll be more gentle with me. Maybe, if I give him anything he wants, he’ll let me go.

It might be a futile thought, but it’s here, and it’s not going anywhere.

“Don’t think I’m doing this for your pleasure, Sky.” He groans. “Oh, no. I’m doing this because I want to watch you writhe from my finger.”

Still twisting and pulling my nipples with one hand, he’s driving me crazy with lust, as the other expertly builds the desire between my legs.

“I’m going to watch you come, and you’re going to enjoy it, and then hate yourself for liking it. And tomorrow, we’ll do the same thing. And then again … and again …”

“Stop …” I moan.

Who am I kidding? He’s not going to, and I’m not even sure I want him to stop anymore.

He’s got me under a spell, and I’m helpless to fight it.

Without looking, she felt a presence standing directly behind her, her body humming as it always did whenever he was in the same vicinity.

Danielle looked over Rachel’s shoulder with a wicked twinkle in her eye. “Logan, you remember Rachel.”

Rachel had met Logan a year and a half ago through their mutual friend Kate. Having just finished her report about a mother who killed her two kids and then stored their bodies in a freezer, Rachel hadn’t been in the mood to socialize. But she hadn’t wanted to disappoint Kate, so she’d gone out anyway.

Rachel had heard only good things about Logan and was eager to meet him. But after Kate had introduced them, he ignored her most of the evening, acknowledging her only to argue with her on every little comment she made. After an hour of it, she’d decided to keep her mouth shut, not wanting to ruin her friend’s night. She’d spent the rest of the evening observing the way Logan smiled at Kate . . . spoke to Kate . . . lit up for Kate.

That night, she’d realized Logan was in love with Kate.

And that he didn’t like her.

She stood and faced him, ready to try to play nice. She gestured to his hands. “Still playing with ropes I see.”

“Still pretending you’re not curious about them.” His expression didn’t change, but she heard the smirk in his voice.

“I’m not curious. I got over playing cops and robbers when I turned seven.” She tossed her long hair over her shoulder. “And by the way, I always did the tying up.”

He chuckled. “Of course you did.”

“Why would you say ‘of course’?”

He inched closer, the spicy musk of him reaching her nose. “Because you’re a control freak.”

She crossed her arms and took a step toward him, so close she had to tilt her chin up to look into his copper-colored eyes. “If the shoe fits . . .”

He tossed the rope onto the small end table beside Danielle’s chair and wrapped his hand around the top of Rachel’s arm, the heat of his fingers searing her skin. “No, there’s a difference between me and you.” He lowered his voice. “I find serenity in control while you wouldn’t know serenity if it bit you on that finely shaped ass of yours.”

He let go of her and she stumbled back into the chair. If she wasn’t mistaken, there was a compliment blended in with that insult. Reminded by his comment of how she kept her ass finely shaped, she turned from Logan and nudged Danielle on the shoulder. “I do too have a hobby. I do Pilates five days a week. So there, I do something other than work.”

Danielle rose from the chair. “It doesn’t count if you’re on your cell phone the whole time.”

“I bet I could teach you how to relax,” Logan said from behind her.

She twirled around, raising her eyebrow. “You gonna let me tie you up and gag you? Because that would definitely put a smile on my face.”

Laughing, Danielle walked away, giving her a little wave. Traitor.

He chuckled, the sound of it low and deep, which for some reason created a warm, syrupy sensation throughout her body. “Not a chance. But an hour with me, your bones would turn to liquid and you’d have the best night’s sleep of your life.”

“All from a little rope?”

“No,” he said, backing her up against the wall. He caged her in, his right hand resting above her head and the other stroking her hip. “From the heart-pumping, thigh-clenching, eye-rolling orgasms I’d give you while you were bound and gagged.”

Her breath stalled in her chest as the image he suggested flashed before her eyes, threatening to steal the tightly reined control she kept on herself. Then she remembered most men were full of shit. Plenty of others had promised to rock her world in the bedroom and not one had ever succeeded. “Pretty cocky, Soldier Boy. Too bad there’s no way you’ll ever get to deliver.”

He lowered his head, his lips hovering dangerously close to hers.

“Afraid to try, Tiger?”
