Sometimes, in the middle of the night, or the calm after a big storm, when the world seems new and fresh, when one can feel the rightness of the world falling into place, I forget. This is my favorite time; this is the point between old and new and the fresh and used. It is that point when I can pretend that I too am fresh and new. I can stand in the rain and shower off the old me, shedding it like the skin of a snake; with it goes the terrors and pain and I am left fresh. For a time. Then, I look down and see the scars, feel the terror and smell the fear. Yes, fear has a smell, a very distinct, very real smell. I am sure it is a different smell for everyone; for me it is lemons, coppery lemons. The fear I smell the most though is one that brings most peace.  And the sounds, oh the sounds that come screaming back into my head. They don’t leave. They never leave. They come screaming back, fast and furious, like a Japanese bullet train. Always on course, always on time. They crush me with the weight of the fear they bring with them. I have to escape. I need release; it is why I run in these early hours, in the rain and storms that other people stay out of.
I dress in my running gear and open myself up to the cathartic release I get from lacing up my shoes and I step out the door. I know I can’t out run my past.  I know I cannot escape the fears and pain, or erase the scars, but I can forget for a time. I can find that release. With each pounding footstep I feel calmer. I feel the terrors of my dreams fade and I can see the new day rising. What was done was done, I cannot change that. I am a new person now. New face, new name, new life. The run clears my mind and as I reach the end, the clearing of Aspens, with leaves now turning, looking golden and on fire in the early morning sun; I feel renewed. I love these mountains and their glorious, ever-changing beauty. The trees can be at once skeletal remains and yet grow, not giving in to nature, to become the beautiful fireballs before me, an amazing creation I am currently standing in awe of. Proof that life goes on; it continues. The world turns, the sun rises and sets and no one will remember what once was. Out of breath and energy, I lay down in the meadow and watch the sun continue its rise, preparing myself for another day. A day spent hiding myself yet being the most free I have ever been at the same time. Today, I start again...

Abby is determined to make her new bakery shop a success. She is following her dreams and has everything she could ever want. Her sister thinks her life is lacking in the love department so she uses weekly dinners to try to set Abby up with a string of losers, men that Abby just does not feel a connection. Then she meets Kennedy, a hunky firefighter with a killer smile and captivating charm that makes her weak in the knees. One of her sister’s set ups has finally paid off. The more she tries to stop herself from falling for him the faster she seems to be going down.
When a series of mysterious incidents begin to occur in Abby’s life, Kennedy shows his alpha male protective side and will do anything to keep her safe. It is clear someone is out to get her and ruin her business. Kennedy vows to find out who is trying to hurt the girl he can’t stop wanting to be with, he will protect her no matter how stubborn she tries to be.

The title of this book describes it perfectly for me. Yes, it is the sweetest at times, when Kennedy gets down on one knee to ask Abby to be his girlfriend I just about died. Kennedy is also very tempting like a devilish dessert you shouldn’t eat. From the start I could feel the sexual tension between these two. However, it was not about just lust and desire, it felt like a connection that would mean so much more. I loved Abby she was quirky and fun like a girl I would be friends with I completely got her from the first chapter. Her relationship with her sister was so real. Her friendships with Hope and Dex are great; they were fun characters to read. Kennedy’s firefighter friends were totally swoon worthy. The sex scenes were steamy and sensual. All in all it was a very enjoyable story, I could not put it down. I loved J.C. Valentine’s, Knockout and Tapout, Sweetest Temptations does not disappoint. I am hoping that Jack and Hope’s story is next there was a hint of these two getting together. Highly recommend.

Life has not been kind to Anna. Everything that she has ever loved is taken from her. Her family, her friends, her husband and any place she ever thought to call home is gone. All of this is the doing of one man. Devin Anderson. For as long as Anna can remember Devin has been a fixture in her life. He started as a loving uncle type that she could look up to as a young girl. When she lost her parents in a tragic car accident leaving her an orphan, Devin was there for her supportive and loving. Then one day it all stopped. He went from being her protector to her worst nightmare. Anna found herself thrust into the world of sex slaves, trained to use her sexuality to help advance Devin in the political world.

This installment begins about two years after she lost her beloved husband and Master Alex, killed on one of his mysterious missions for the Brotherhood. Leaving Anna at the mercy of her other Master Devin. The only way Anna could survive the pain of losing her one true love was to take the drugs that Devin was all too eager to provide. She craved the numbing bliss. Ever the evil master Devin was crueler to her than ever. At one point he took away her escape preventing her from staying in a drug induced stupor. This creates yet another way for him to control her mind and body.

Throughout part four, Anna goes through many emotions. Despair, sadness, even love a little as she begins a relationship with both Kurt and Willem. Even the man, Peter that Devin enlists to keep an eye on Anna cannot help but fall for her. Devin still has a hold on Anna as we find out he pulls his power from Anna, she becomes weaker her immortal powers lessening. He continues to use her body for his own gain.

There are so many twists and turns in this installment, I was left breathless. The story once again enthralled me from the first chapter. Two things in this one that were my favorites, one when Anna dreams of Alex because it gives me and Anna hope that he may be alive somewhere. The other is when Anna shows her mean streak. We find out that Anna when angry is not a pretty sight and even the diabolical Devin shows a little bit of fear.

Marissa reveals some things in this installment but she also gives us more to contemplate. This is one of the reasons I love this series so much, it is such a unique story. Marissa is truly an evil genius when it comes to dark romance. Just when you think you have it, all figured out she throws you for a loop. I cannot wait to find out how the final installment ends. I can only hope my beloved Alex will be back to help Anna defeat Devin. Though maybe in the end Anna realizes the power to defeat Devin was in her all along she just had to find it.

I look forward to anything Marissa Honeycutt writes, it is sure to keep my attention.

BE WARNED THIS IS A DARK ROMANCE IT HAS SOME BRUTAL SUBJECT MATTER. INCLUDING RAPE AND PHYSICAL ABUSE, ANNA’S LIFE IS NOT A PRETTY ONE. SOME OF THE CHARACTERS IN THIS BOOK ARE PURE EVIL AND DO VERY EVIL THINGS. IF THIS TYPE OF STORY OFFENDS, YOU DO NOT READ IT.

Marissa's story of Anna began with a dream about being kidnapped with Adam Savage from Mythbusters (Yes, really). Over the next year and a half, it morphed into the story that is now known as "The Life of Anna." She has several other stories in progress, one of which is based on her kidnapped dream.



When she's not writing or editing, Marissa is taking care of two young boys, training to be an astronaut, running her household, wrestling with gorillas, playing around on Facebook, promoting whirled peas, and busting her tush for her accounting degree. Chloe lifted her gaze and locked it with mine. She shook her head again and groaned, “Fine.” Then she took off her shirt.
