Whisper to Me by Christina Lee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This was a steamy New Adult romance that had me holding my breath every time Rachel and Kai were in the same room.
My Review:
Rachel has been at college trying to run away from the aftermath of a terrible car accident that left her unable to do the simplest tasks. With the help of her best friends Dakota and Kai and her parents she was able to recover from her injuries and from the break up with her boyfriend in the middle of her recovery.
She felt that people in town treated her differently “The girl with the brain injury” and just had to get away. Leaving behind her best friend Dakota and her brother Kai who is secretly head over heels in love with her.
Kai didn’t realize this until she was recovering from her accident and he is desperately afraid to lose her as friend so he suffers in silence. He does his own running away to Amsterdam only to find himself back in town and Rachel back for the summer to help her mom with her business.
Its evident right away that Kai and Rachel can’t keep their desire for each other at bay and they finally give in to temptation and start a steamy secret fling over the summer. Giving each other what they think the other needs, to get lost in passion. But throughout it all Kai’s love grows stronger and Rachel discovers what she didn't realize had been there all along.
Being part of how these two lost souls come together was magical. Lines like “I am yours, I have always been yours” that Kai says to himself just melted my heart. His pure love for her from a distance for years just really got to me. Without a kiss or any other physical contact he feel in love with her as a person. So when they come together and release the sexual tension it was bittersweet for him since it was always more and he thought it wasn't for her. At times I wanted to slap sense into both of them, but I thought the author did a great job of keeping my interest in this great couple. When I received the ARC from Netgalley and saw it was part of a series I was disappointed and thinking I would be lost. But this is individual to Kai and Rachel, though there are other couples in the background that I am now curious to know their stories of how they got together. This is the first book of Christina Lee’s I have read I look forward to reading more. Nice HEA and no cliffhangers, though I do wonder what Shane and Dakota’s story is, I will be looking for it.
