Abby Thompson is the daughter of the President of the United States. The position forced on her by birth certainly not by choice. Preferring to live a quiet normal life of a college student, until tragedy strikes and her whole world turned upside down. Even when she thinks, she has been able to change the course of life she finds herself taken hostage by terrorists and her life is once again threatened. Poor girl cannot catch a break; she needs the hero of her heart. However, will Carlos be able to save her in time?

Carlos “Steady” Soto was not always supposed to live a life of danger and secret covert operations. His original life plan was to operate as a surgeon. A tragedy changes his path and he is now part of a covert government defense team called the Black Knights Inc. When he gets a mission that puts the young, beautiful Abby Thompson back in his sights he realizes his past has come back to haunt him. Just when he thought, he had forgotten her through dangerous missions and meaningless sex she ends up being his assignment. He cannot believe his luck, it has been eight years since he has laid eyes on Abby. Eight years of trying to forget that, she rejected him when he needed her the most. Now he is determined to do his job and protect her while leaving his heart intact.

Abby and Carlos met each other and became friends through Carlos’ twin sister Rose when they are both in college as MED students. Abby is younger and just starting out and Carlos is older and from the other side of the tracks. A catastrophe changes the course of both their lives, leaving them to go their separate ways. Eight years later Abby’s father the President of the United States is about to leave office his second term coming to an end.
Abby is a now a Horticulturist and seems completely indifferent to Carlos’ presence as part of her security detail in Kuala Lumpur at a convention, much to Carlos’ disappointment. When Abby’s life is in danger Carlos steps in as the hero she always knew he was. Carlos and Abby have no idea that they have both been pining for each other all these years. Abby thinks she is to blame for the heartbreak that forced them apart and Carlos thinks she rejected him because of his pedigree.

It does not take long to feel the sexual tension between these two characters. Carlos has the completely sexy Latin thing going on that will draw you in, you can just picture his sexy dimple as he laughs and smiles at Abby’s funny little phases she uses to express her emotions. “Son of a blue balled biscuit eater” she is cute, I liked her. However I have to say sometimes their internal thoughts rather dragged on a bit for me they become somewhat long winded, I wish the author had cut those down by a few sentences. Also sometimes, the author got a bit wordy with the descriptive parts of the book. For me it should not take three paragraphs to describe a room or place or a person’s clothing. When that happens, I find myself losing my place in the book and I have to re-read those parts to follow. The plot was very intriguing that is what kept me reading and wanting to know what would happen next.

This was the first book I read from this author and I did enjoy it quite a bit. The story was interesting and the sex scenes were steamy. I like the background characters of Dan and Penni and I really would like to hear their story I will definitely watch out for that book.

This is the seventh book in the series you do not have to read the other books to follow this one. There are characters from the previous books, but the author does a good job of intertwining their stories a little so you do not feel too lost by their presence. If you like military romance and suspense this is a good read for you.
