Once Loved - Shattered Past #2 by Cecy Robson - Netgalley ARC review

Once Loved (Shattered Past, #2)Once Loved by Cecy Robson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Lety Tres Santos comes from an abusive childhood filled with unimaginable horrors at the hands of her drug addict father. His abuse of her and her mother and siblings have left many physical and emotional scars. Lety’s only escape has been her will to educate herself as she goes to college to become a nurse. Lety finds out, thanks to her father’s violent outburst on campus, she is losing her scholarship; once again, her father has ruined something dear to her. Brody the boy she let get away because she feared if he knew all about her past, he wouldn’t want her is determined to help. However, Lety will not depend on any man because she’s learned from her mother that gets you nothing but heartache and pain.

Brody is a star athlete and straight A student when he was a freshman, he fell hard for the feisty and sexy Lety. Their relationship stalled when Lety put up walls, he couldn’t get through and broke his heart by pushing him away. Brody chooses not to give up on their love and decides to do whatever it takes to get Lety back in his life and his arms. Which means he will have to open up his heart as well and reveal secrets he never intended for anyone to know least of all the woman he intends to spend the rest of his life loving. He plans to prove that she wants him as much as he wants her, but can he convince her that they can build a future together no matter the odds.

This is book two of the Shattered Past series from Cecy Robson book one was my first book of hers and I loved it. When we met, Brody and Lety in book one and realized they would be the next book I could not wait for their story. The sexual chemistry between the characters was steamy and heartwarming at times. The writer really captured my attention when she delved into the terrors of an abusive family life. When we get into Brody’s dysfunctional family and their terribly tragic past, I could not put the book down. I adored every moment of when Lety and Brody truly let themselves enjoy being together. This was definitely a couple I rooted for from the beginning. The only negative I can point out is that sometimes Lety’s insistence not to take help from Brody was a little excessive. It took a long time for her to allow him and his family to help her when she needed it. I felt like that was a bit overstated. Though being from an abusive background, I could understand how someone like Lety might feel about accepting help from anyone. All in all, the book was great and I can’t wait for Killian and Sofie’s book I think that one will prove to be another emotional ride in this great series.
