ARC Reviews: Hard Ride Part #1, Part #2 and Part #3 : A Novel in Three Parts by Opal Carew

Hard Ride #1: A Novel in Three Parts (Ready to Ride)Hard Ride #1: A Novel in Three Parts by Opal Carew

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When Liv was in college all she cared about was school and her best friend Devin. They were inseparable if they weren’t studying together they were hanging out. She longed for their relationship to be more than friendship. When Devin finally decides to ask her out on a real date his timing couldn’t be worse. Something terrible happened to Liv that changed her forever and damaged her beyond repair. She knows her rejection hurt him so she walked away, never thinking she would see him again. She couldn’t have imagined that she would become face to face with the one person she ever cared for in a dark alley surrounded by a band of rough looking bikers. But there he is coming to her rescue once again and hotter than she remembered.

Shock remembers how Liv broke his heart when he finally got up the nerve to ask her out on a real date. They had been best friends for a long time, but he always wanted more, just never had the nerve to ask. When she rejected him, it hurt more than he cared to admit. Now years later he has the opportunity to get her out of his system. To get her into his bed and scratch the itch he has been feeling since the day she walked out of his life. Can he leave his heart out of it and have a fling with the only girl who ever actually held his heart. The only girl who ever could truly break him? Will a month of her complete submission be enough to quench his need for her?

This is the story of Liv and Shock an MC romance. I liked the backstory of how Liv and Shock knew each other in college as best friends. They both had feelings for each other then, but for an unknown reason Liv pushes him away and then their connection breaks for years. When they meet up unexpectedly, again, Devin is now Shock, and he is in a motorcycle gang who like to share their woman.

Liv is broke her life has not turned out as she would have expected at all. She has spent most of her time recently trying to work to help pay for her sisters medical bills. When Shock has the chance to help her and himself to her body he takes it. Liv needs money Shock has it so it’s a win / win situation he thinks. But she refuses to tell him why she needs it, he assumes it’s to pay a debt or maybe for a deadbeat boyfriend. He decides he doesn’t care and strikes a deal with Liv to be his sex slave for a month in exchange for the money. Liv accepts begrudgingly since her experience with sex is very limited and her first time not of her own choice.

I don’t want to give away too much plot from the whole story so I will say this about part one it was a decent start to the series. I liked Shock even though sometimes he was jerk you can tell it was because Liv really broke his heart, though we have no idea why until book two.

Liv is a very naïve girl who cared for Shock back in college, but her bad traumatic experience made her back away and changes her life. Making her feel undeserving of love and acceptance or friendship which stops her from being able to commit or have any sort of social relationships besides her sick sister.

The secondary characters are interesting, I know they are from the previous Riding Steele and Ready to Ride series, which I actually did not get to read yet. I am curious about it now, though. You do not have to read that series to understand this one.

I am an Opal Carew fan and have read many of her books, this series has the same elements as her others lots of hot sex, alpha males and the woman who tame them.

Hard Ride #2: A Novel in Three Parts (Ready to Ride)Hard Ride #2: A Novel in Three Parts by Opal Carew

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This installment is so much better than the first one for me, which was more of an introduction to the story. Book two gives us more insight into why Liv pushed Shock away all those years ago in college. Someone she thought was her friend and classmate raped her at a frat party he betrayed her trust. She pushed Shock away, that’s why sex isn’t comfortable for her, she practically a virgin. This is the point in the book that we find out Shocks true nature, which is not to just be a big bad biker, but a sweet caring man who wants nothing more than to keep Liv in his arms forever. He doesn’t push her to have sex he waits until she is ready, but he shows her how pleasurable sex can be. Does she feel the same way as he does? He keeps asking himself the question as he moves Live into his cabin home and they start a sexual relationship. Shock doesn’t know Liv is asking herself the same question. These two keep their feelings hidden behind the sex slave contract Shock had Liv sign, but we can tell right from the start their desires run deeper than an agreement on paper.

While Liv and Shock are getting to know each other, again physically as well as emotionally the other bikers and their girls are taking care of their sexual needs. I didn’t mind the sharing women part of the story as added hot sex it was fine, but not needed for the story I think. It shows these people have very open minds and lives, but sometimes was just gratuitous sex.

The sex scenes with Liv and Shock were exceptionally erotic I especially enjoyed when Shock showed his control in the bedroom. So very sexy and sweet at the same time, he wants to do whatever it takes to get her to realize how much he really cares and if he has to give her multiple orgasms to prove it Shock is more than up for the task.

This couple has a long road ahead of them between interfering women that Shock may have had a thing with and the secrets they are both keeping there is no telling how these two will end up.

Hard Ride #3: A Novel in Three PartsHard Ride #3: A Novel in Three Parts by Opal Carew

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Shock knows that Liv is beginning to pull away from him and he doesn’t know if he can take her rejection again. He finds out why she needed the money for her sick sister, which makes him feel like a real jerk for thinking she needed the money because of a gambling debt or a boyfriend. That lie aside, Liv continues to deny her true feelings for Shock. He refuses to let her go; losing her again is not an option.

The conclusion to Liv and Shock’s story was great loved every minute of it. Shock tries so hard to get Liv to understand he loves her without actually saying it. Liv finds out a secret of Shocks that rocks her to her core making her believe that any relationship they could have had is doomed. It seems this couple communicates best when the clothes are off.

The sex is again off the charts erotic and sensual Shock and Liv steam up the pages. When Liv agrees to be shared by Shock and his badass biker friends, it’s more than she could have ever fantasized about. It is after this experience that Shock and Liv finally confess their secrets and true feelings for each other.
All in all this series had angst, emotion and a boatload of sex, which is always exciting to read. I have been an Opal Carew fan for a while her books always titillate and fascinate the reader this series is no exception.
